Grant Loose is the new library services associate at Penn State Scranton, where he will oversee and be responsible for supporting students academic endeavors.
DUNMORE, Pa. – Penn State Scranton recently welcomed Grant Loose as the newest addition to its library team. With a background rooted in the Penn State community and having worked part-time on the campus previously, Loose steps into his new role with enthusiasm and a commitment to serving the campus community.
“Penn State Scranton is such a welcoming community and I feel excited to begin my new role, especially with the library about to unveil its new space (a $13.1 million renovation project begun last year),” he said. “I’m equally eager to get to know everyone more, and to collaborate with students, staff, and faculty alike.”
Loose, who resides in Kingston, Pennsylvania, brings with him a deep appreciation for the University’s Libraries system.

In his new position, Loose will oversee and be responsible for services that support students’ academic endeavors.
“I will continue working with our course reserves, which aim to provide students with access to materials they need for class at no cost,” he said. “I also work with the student workers to ensure patrons receive a quality experience at our circulation desk. I participate in other library work, such as our 'Ask A Librarian' chat, and managing our interlibrary loans, which allow patrons to obtain materials that aren’t in the Penn State collection.”
Looking ahead, Loose said he is eager to take on more responsibilities and contribute to the library’s mission.
“I am looking forward to accepting more responsibility and assisting our librarians in their role to provide services to our patrons and maintain our collection. I’m also excited to see our patrons enjoy the new space, and I want to make sure that they are aware of all the services we offer to help them,” he said.
Loose’s educational journey, graduating with a bachelor of arts degree in English with a minor in information sciences and technology from Penn State Wilkes-Barre, coupled with his ongoing pursuit of a master of library and information sciences degree from the University of Pittsburgh, equips him with the skills and knowledge to excel in his new role. Additionally, he is actively involved in the Libraries Staff Advisory Council (LSAC), advocating for staff employees’ interests within the University’s library system.
