Penn State Scranton celebrates Martin Luther King, Jr. Day each year to honor the life and work of civil rights icon Martin Luther King, Jr., and to recognize the campus' commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Key Arts Productions presents King’s Dream, an inspiring live performance and multimedia presentation that offers a rousing tribute to the life and teachings of civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Relive the most memorable events in Dr. King’s life as the Nobel Peace Prize recipient led African Americans in the struggle for social change and racial equality for all people.

Program includes:

  • An exciting performance presentation that captures
    the spirit of the civil rights movement.
  • Music and songs that tell the story of drama, pain, and perseverance.
  • Live narration and powerful film footage that revels the historical roots and the social implications that led to an era of social unrest in America during the turbulent sixties.

  • Arrival, registration and lunch 11:15 a.m. to noon
  • Presentation of Excellence in Diversity Awards and Introduction of Performance noon to 12:30 p.m. - Each year, two Excellence in Diversity Awards are given during the ceremony: one to a member of the campus community, and another to a local community member or organization who shows a commitment to diversity. 
  • King's Dream Performance 12:30 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.
  • Closing Remarks 1:15 p.m.

  • Jackson Terrace Pantry 
    Dates: January 22nd, 23rd, or 24th 
    Time: 1 PM - 4 PM

  • Clothing and Home Goods Distribution
    Dates: January 23rd or 24th
    Time: 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM
    Location: 240 E Elm St, Scranton, PA 18505
  • Warehouse Help
    Dates: January 22nd, 23rd, or 24th
    Time: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
    Location: 240 E Elm St, Scranton, PA 18505

We encourage you to sign up for one or more shifts! Whether you're helping distribute clothing and home goods, assisting at the pantry, or providing support in the warehouse, your contribution will make a direct impact on those in need.
