Policy, Procedures, Resources for Academic Integrity
Penn State University defines academic integrity as "the pursuit of scholarly activity in an open, honest, and responsible manner" in Faculty Senate Policy 49-20. The policy further states that "Academic Integrity is a basic guiding principle for all academic activity at The Penn State University, and all members of the University community are expected to act in accordance with this principle".
The practice of exhibiting academic integrity is regarded as a learning opportunity for students so a commitment to honest and moral scholarly behavior can be integrated throughout the student's academic, professional and personal life.
Faculty
Academic integrity is vital to effective student learning and assessment to that learning. Through honest academic work, instructors are able to determine if students are achieving the learning outcomes for their courses and for their academic programs. Student commitment to academic integrity allows instructors to adapt teaching methods, pedagogies, or assessments as needed for students' learning benefit.
Academic Integrity Guidelines for Faculty
Students
Students who commit to academic integrity are able to achieve their learning goals and personal growth throughout their program of study. These students are respecting the investment they have made in their education, their professional success, and themselves. The future prospects for students that embrace honest academic work are greater than those who do not, as the integrity they exhibit in their classes will be a professional expectation beyond graduation.
