Purpose: Penn State Scranton Excellence in Academic Advising Award was established to recognize a full-time faculty or staff who advises students.
Eligibility: Any full-time faculty and staff who advises students and has maintained an active advising roster for at least one academic year.

Selection Procedure: The Awards Committee will consist of five members including the most recent recipient of the award, the Advising Council Chair and Vice-Chair, one of the faculty representatives from the Advising Council, and a student representative.
Nomination Procedure: Any member of the student body, faculty, administration or an officially registered student organization may sponsor a nominee. The selection will be based on the overall effectiveness of the faculty or staff adviser as reflected by the nominating documents. Nominations will be reviewed by the awards committee, which will make recommendations to the Chancellor. If the committee believes that none of the nominees meet the criteria for the award, the committee may recommend that no award be presented. Evaluations of the nominees will be made based on demonstration of the following criteria:
- Evidence of accessibility and responsiveness to students
- Evidence of quality advising regarding program curriculum, policies, and procedures of the University
- Evidence of effective advising regarding goal-setting, career planning and/or exploration, and academic counseling
- Evidence of documented efforts to improve academic advising skills
