Due to the generosity of alumni and friends of the campus, we award over 150 scholarships to our students, close to 70 percent of whom are first generation college students, and 75 percent of whom receive some form of financial aid. Donald and Carol Lewis Ames Scholarship
The Ames Scholarship is given to full time undergraduate students at Penn State Scranton who have a demonstrated financial need. First preference is given to students who reside in Wyoming or Lackawanna Counties.
John and Patricia Atkins Scholarship
The Atkins Scholarship recognizes students enrolled in the baccalaureate degree program in nursing. This academic and need based scholarship was created through the personal generosity of Patricia and John Atkins.
The Axford Family Scholarship
The Axford Memorial Scholarship is awarded to students on the basis of academic achievement, leadership in high school activities, and community contributions. It was established by the Axford family in memory of the late Herbert T. Axford, a long-standing member of the campus Advisory Board.
Sharon Baldassari Kornfeld Memorial Scholarship
The Baldassari Kornfeld Memorial Scholarship was established by Patricia and Robert Baldassari in memory of their daughter Sharon. It is awarded to academically talented students who are significantly involved in community and/or campus activities.
Julius “Butch” Barnauskas Memorial Annual Scholarship
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to full-time undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State Scranton, or successor academic unit, who have a demonstrated financial need for funds to meet their necessary college expenses and who are graduates of either Western Wayne High School, in Wayne County, Pennsylvania or Mid Valley High School, in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, or successor schools. If there are not eligible recipients from either Western Wayne High School or Mid Valley High School, then this scholarship may be awarded to graduates of any high school in Wayne County, Pennsylvania.
Margaret Briggs Memorial Scholarship
The Briggs Scholarship was established by the late Ms. Margaret Briggs and the Foundation which now bears her name. It was established to recognize students of superior academic accomplishment.
Richard K. and Marianne Byron Open Doors Scholarship
The Byron Open Doors Scholarship gives first preference to students at Penn State Scranton who are participating in the Complete Penn State program. This scholarship was created through the personal generosity of Ann Vaida in honor of her nephew, Richard and his wife, Marianne.
Violet and Richard Byron Scholarship
The Violet and Richard Byron Scholarship was established by campus alumnus Richard K. and Marianne Byron, in honor of Richard's parents. Violet served in various capacities at Penn State Scranton, including financial aid coordinator. She retired in 2000. The scholarship gives preference to veteran students at the campus who have excelled academically and who have served active duty or were honorably discharged.
The Cappelloni Family Trustee Scholarship
Campus alumnus Al Cappelloni, and Patti, his wife have established this generous scholarship to recognize academically talented students who have financial need.
CINRAM Scholarship
The generosity of CINRAM has made this scholarship possible. It will be awarded to full-time students at Penn State Scranton who have excelled academically.
Alfred P. (Fred) Ciotti Memorial Scholarship
The Alfred P. (Fred) Ciotti Memorial Scholarship was established by the family of the late Mr. Ciotti, a Penn State graduate and owner of Famous Fashions Clothing Stores. The Ciotti Memorial Scholarship is awarded to incoming freshmen from Valley View and Carbondale Area High Schools who have demonstrated academic excellence and who have documented financial need.
Janet A. Cottone Memorial Scholarship in Nursing
The Janet A. Cottone Memorial Scholarship in Nursing was made possible by the generosity of the late Dr. Benjamin A. Cottone and family. It is awarded to superior students enrolled or planning to enroll in the nursing program who have a proven financial need and who are residents of Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Darlene Ann Dunay Scholarship
Consideration for this scholarship is given to full-time undergraduate students enrolled at Penn State Scranton who have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 on a scale of 4.0, and who have a demonstrated financial need. It was created by Penn State alumna and campus advisory board member Dr. Darlene Dunay and her husband, Anthony Wastella.
Harry Dickstein Memorial Scholarship
The Dickstein Memorial Scholarship recognizes students with a financial need who have demonstrated academic achievement, leadership in high school activities, and contributions to the community. The scholarship was created by his three children, Herbert Dickstein, Miriam Schiowitz, and Shirley Hollenberg.
David M. and Aleen F. Epstein Scholarship
Penn State alumni Atty. David and Aileen Epstein have established this scholarship to recognize students who have achieved superior academic records and who have a proven financial need.
Eureka Scholarship
The Eureka Foundation has established this scholarship to recognize campus students who have achieved positive academic records, who have a proven financial need, and who are residents of Northeastern Pennsylvania.
James D. and Margaret S. Gallagher Honors Scholarship
Former Campus Executive Officer James D. Gallagher and Margaret S. Gallagher have created this fund to recognize students enrolled in the Penn State Scranton Honors Program who have excelled academically and who have a demonstrated financial need.
Gammaitoni-Barnes Trustee Scholarship
The Gammaitoni-Barnes Trustee Scholarship was established by Penn State Scranton alumna Lisa Gammaitoni Miles. Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State Scranton who have a demonstrated financial need. First preference shall be given to students enrolled in the Human Development and Family Studies degree program.
James P. and Catherine M. Gilligan Memorial Scholarship
The Gilligan Memorial Scholarship was established by the family of the late James P. and Catherine M. Gilligan to honor both James P., who taught chemistry and physics at Dunmore High School, and his wife, who was a secretary for the Dunmore School District. Two scholarships will be awarded annually based on academic achievement and financial need. First preference will be given to incoming freshmen from Dunmore High School. Second preference will be given to students enrolled in the nursing program at Penn State Scranton.
Greater Scranton Jaycees Scholarship
The Jaycees Scholarship is awarded to outstanding students who are enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State Scranton, who have achieved academic success, and who have demonstrated community service and leadership.
Greater Scranton Penn State Chapter Open Doors Scholarship Consideration for this scholarship is given to undergraduate students enrolled at Penn State Scranton who are participating in Complete Penn State or demonstrate financial need.
Greater Scranton Penn State Chapter Scholarship
The Greater Scranton Penn State Chapter is an organization of alumni and friends who have pledged to aid this campus and Penn State through gifts to the University and through scholarships. This Scholarship recognizes outstanding scholastic achievement.
Hahnemann/Geisinger Community Medical Center Nursing Alumni Trustee Scholarship
Through the generosity of alumni from Hahnemann School of Nursing and Community Medical Center, the campus will award this scholarship to undergraduate nursing students at Penn State Scranton who have achieved superior academic records or who manifest promise of outstanding success. Preference will be given to students who are currently employed in the healthcare field.
Dr. Jason J. Hanyon Scholarship
The Hanyon Scholarship recognizes students at Penn State Scranton who have a grade point average of at least 3.0 and demonstrated financial need.
Elmer and Louise Hawk Scholarship
Elmer and Louise Hawk sponsor college assistance grants to recognize Penn State Scranton students who are children of employees of Gertrude Hawk Chocolates and Gertrude Hawk Chocolate Shops. Both freshmen and second-year students are eligible for the grants that are made possible through the personal generosity of the Hawks.
Hawk Family Foundation Open Doors Scholarship
Consideration for this scholarship is given to undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State Scranton who are participating in Complete Penn State or demonstrate financial need.
Marie D. and John T. Howe Memorial Scholarship
Penn State alumni Bruce and Paul Howe have established this scholarship in memory of their late parents to recognize students from Western Wayne High School who have distinguished themselves academically.
Frank and Jean Hubbard Scholarship
The Hubbard Scholarship Fund is a personal gift from the Hubbards established to provide recognition and financial assistance to outstanding seniors from North Pocono High School who plan on studying at Penn State Scranton. Leadership and entrepreneurial abilities are also criteria used for selection.
Louis and Colleen Ingargiola Family Open Doors Scholarship Consideration for this scholarship is given to undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State Scranton who are participating in Complete Penn State or demonstrate financial need.
Jennings/McDonough Families Trustee Scholarship in Memory of Edward & Ann Jennings and "Big" Jim McDonough
This scholarship provides financial assistance to to students attending Penn State Scranton who have a demonstrated need for funds. First preference is given to those students who graduated from West Scranton High School.
Grace Keen Memorial Scholarship
Penn State alumna Grace Keen has established this scholarship for students from Wayne County who are enrolled in the nursing program at Penn State Scranton, who have achieved superior academic records, or who manifest promise of outstanding academic success, and who have a demonstrated financial need.
The Kato Family Scholarship
Penn State alumnus Joe Kato has established this scholarship to recognize students who are pursuing a degree in the Information Sciences and Technology, Engineering, or Science curricula.
Keystone Sanitary Landfill Scholarship
The Keystone Sanitary Landfill Scholarship was established by this corporation to recognize students who have achieved positive academic records and who have a financial need. Preference shall be given to incoming freshmen from Mid-Valley, Dunmore, and Holy Cross high schools.
Anita and George Lesho Memorial Scholarship
The Lesho Scholarship was established by George and Anita Lesho to recognize academically talented students who have a financial need. Preference is given to graduates of Valley View, Mid-Valley and Holy Cross high schools.
Anne E. Lohmann Memorial Scholarship
The Lohmann Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of the late Penn State Scranton Admissions Counselor, Anne E. Lohmann, who worked at the campus for 16 years. It recognizes adult learner undergraduate students pursuing a Penn State degree at Penn State Scranton.
Albert J. and Catherine Magnotta Memorial Scholarship
The Magnotta Memorial Scholarship is awarded to outstanding students enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State Scranton who are pursuing a degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology. It was established by family and friends to honor the late Mrs. Magnotta and her husband, Albert Sr., who taught Engineering Technology classes at Penn State Scranton. Preference for the scholarship is given to graduates of North Pocono High School.
Albert J. and Dorothy Lois Magnotta, Jr. Scholarship
Consideration for the Magnotta, Jr. Scholarship is given to full time students who have graduated from North Pocono High School and are majoring in a degree program that focuses on science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) at Penn State Scranton.
Lester and Helen Male Memorial Scholarship
The Lester and Helen Male Memorial Scholarship was established by the late Attorney Lester Male and his wife, Helen. Consideration for the Male Scholarship is given to all full-time undergraduate students who are currently enrolled in a baccalaureate degree program at the campus, who have completed at least one year of study in the fields of science or engineering, and who have achieved superior academic records and demonstrated promise of success.
Joseph E. May Memorial Open doors Scholarship
Alumnus Tom May and family established this scholarship in memory of their brother. Consideration for this scholarship is given to undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State Scranton who are participating in Complete Penn State or demonstrate financial need.
The Schnerr Minelli Memorial Scholarship is awarded primarily to incoming freshmen from Valley View High School who have demonstrated academic excellence and who are considering a career in education, business, or engineering. The scholarship was established by the Minelli family to honor the late Mrs. Minelli who served as Chairperson of the Math Department at Valley View High School.
Gino and Jean Cavalieri Mori Scholarship
Dr. Gino and the late Jean Cavalieri Mori have established a scholarship in their names to recognize traditional students enrolled in the Nursing degree program. Preference will be given to academically talented students from Old Forge and/or Lackawanna County who have a demonstrated financial need.
Primo and Vittoria Ciuferri Mori/Paul Robeson Memorial Scholarship
The Mori/Robeson Memorial Scholarship was established by Dr. Gino and the late Jean Mori in memory of Dr. Mori's parents and the late actor and singer Paul Robeson. The scholarship is awarded to students whose ethnic, cultural and/or national background contribute to the diversity of the student body.
Eugene C. (Jake) Mullen Memorial Scholarship
The Mullen Memorial Scholarship was established by Patrick J. and Jean Layden in memory of Patrick's uncle. The scholarship is awarded to students from Wayne County who are enrolled in nursing or education and who have a demonstrated financial need.
Jacquelyn Nichols Memorial Scholarship
Family and friends of the late Jacquelyn Nichols have created this scholarship to recognize incoming freshmen from Holy Cross High School who have a minimum grade point average of 2.75 out of 4.0.
Orr-Ryan Memorial Scholarship Campus alumnus John J. Orr created this scholarship in memory of his parents, Daniel & Margaret Ryan Orr. It shall be given to undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State Scranton who have achieved superior academic records and who have a demonstrated financial need. First preference shall be given to students who have graduated from Scranton High School in Scranton, PA or Holy Cross High School in Dunmore, PA.
Winifred and Gerald Payne Memorial Scholarship
The Payne Memorial Scholarship was established by Mr. & Mrs. John A. C. Atkins in memory of Mrs. Atkins' parents, the late Winifred Royce Payne and Gerald B. Payne, founder of United Gilsonite Laboratories. The Payne Scholarship recognizes students with superior academic records who have a financial need.
Clifford and Frieda Powell/William and Angela Freeman Scholarship Campus alumnus Fred Powell and his wife, Linda, have created this scholarship in honor of their parents. Consideration will be given to undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State Scranton who have achieved a minimum 3.0 GPA and who have a demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to graduates of Scranton High School.
Robert E. Quinnan Memorial Open Doors Scholarship
Consideration for this scholarship is given to undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State Scranton who are participating in Complete Penn State or demonstrate financial need.
Rice-Butler Family Scholarship
The Rice-Butler Family Scholarship will be awarded to full-time incoming freshmen who show promise of academic success and a financial need. Preference will be given to graduates of Holy Cross and North Pocono high schools.
Joan B. and Clayton A. Richmond Memorial Scholarship
The Richmond Memorial Scholarship was established by family and friends of the late Campus Advisory Board President Clayton A. Richmond and his wife, Joan. The scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to second year students from all disciplines who demonstrate high academic achievement and community service.
Mabel White Riker & Velma White Memorial Scholarship
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to full-time students enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State Scranton with superior academics and have a proven financial need. First preference shall be given to students majoring in Education, Engineering, or Chemistry. In addition, preference shall be given to students from the Riverside School District in Taylor, Pennsylvania.
Stirling A. and Bess B. Riker and Frank & Cora (Dorney) White Memorial Scholarship
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to full-time students enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State Scranton with superior academics and have a proven financial need. First preference shall be given to students majoring in education, engineering, or chemistry.
James & Margaret Rizzo Memorial Scholarship
Consideration for this scholarship is given to full-time undergraduate students at Penn State Scranton who have achieved superior academic records and who have a demonstrated financial need. First preference is given to students who pursue a degree in engineering and are graduates of Dunmore High School. It was created by campus alumnus Charles Rizzo and his wife, Gail, in memory of Charles' parents.
Maria J. Russoniello Renaissance Scholarship
This scholarship is given to full-time undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State Scranton who have achieved outstanding academic records and have a demonstrated financial need. This scholarship was made possible by alumni and friends of Penn State Scranton in honor of retired Director of Development Maria Russoniello for her service and dedication to the campus and the University.
Nicholas and Diane Scandale Scholarship
The Scandale Scholarship is awarded to full-time students who are enrolled in an engineering degree program who have achieved superior academic records and who have a proven financial need. The scholarship was made possible through the personal kindness of the Scandales.
Schautz Family Scholarship
The Schautz Family Scholarship was instituted by the Schautz family to recognize students who have demonstrated academic excellence and are pursuing a degree in a science or engineering curriculum.
Scranton Chapter of UNICO
The generosity of the local chapter of UNICO National has made this scholarship possible. This scholarship is awarded to outstanding students who are enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State Scranton who have achieved academic success and who have demonstrated community service and leadership.

James T. Skibinski Memorial Scholarship
The Skibinski Memorial Scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding students enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State Scranton who are interested in pursuing a degree in architectural, civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering. It was established by the Skibinski family to honor the late James T; Skibinski, a noted local engineer.
The Simpkins Family Open Doors Scholarship
Consideration for this scholarship is given to undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State Scranton who are participating in Complete Penn State or demonstrate financial need.
William S. (Billy) Soose Scholarship
Late retired middleweight boxing champion and Penn State alumnus Billy Soose established this scholarship to recognize incoming freshmen from Wallenpaupack Area or Wayne Highland high schools who have achieved positive academic records. Preference will be given to students who have participated in high school athletics.
Anthony and Linda Sorgi Trustee Matching Scholarship
Campus alumnus Vincent Sorgi, along with his wife Michelle, have created this scholarship in honor of Vince's parents, Anthony and Linda Sorgi. Consideration for this scholarship is given to undergraduate students at Penn State Scranton who have a demonstrated financial need. First preference is given to students whose major in one of the STEM (science, technology, engineering or mathematics) fields.
Penn State alumna the late Betty Parks Strutin established this scholarship in her name, and in memory of her late husband, to recognize students enrolled in nutrition, nursing, or business.
Christopher Sturchio Memorial Scholarship
The family of the late Chris Sturchio and the Campus Honors Program have established this scholarship in memory of Chris who was enrolled in the Honors Program at Penn State Scranton. It is awarded to a currently enrolled honors student.
The Times-Shamrock Scholarship
Times-Shamrock has established this scholarship to recognize academically talented campus students who are newspaper carriers, employees, or children of employees of The Scranton Times, The Tribune, and The Citizens' Voice, as well as its radio station affiliates WEJL, WBAX, WEZX, and WQFM.
Campus alumnus and his wife, Noel, have established this scholarship for undergraduate students enrolled at Penn State Scranton who are participating in Complete Penn State or demonstrate financial need.
Warren and Agnes Thomas Memorial Scholarship
Penn State alumna Suzanne M. Thomas established this scholarship in memory of her parents, the late Warren and Agnes Thomas. It is awarded to incoming freshmen planning to enroll in a degree program in the College of Science or Nursing. Preference shall be given to students from West Scranton High School, Scranton High School, and other public school districts in Lackawanna County, respectively.
Thomson Scholarship
The former Thomson Consumer Electronics, Dunmore, PA, established an academic and need-based scholarship for students enrolled or planning to enroll in the Information Science and Technology or Engineering programs at Penn State Scranton.
David and Joyce Mack Tressler Scholarship
The David and Joyce Mack Tressler Scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding students enrolled or planning to enroll in the College of Education at Penn State Scranton or University Park and whose home address is Lackawanna County. The Scholarship was made possible through a personal gift from the Tresslers.
Consideration for this scholarship is given to undergraduate students enrolled at Penn State Scranton who are participating in Complete Penn State or demonstrate financial need.
UGI Utilities, Inc. endowed this scholarship to recognize students who demonstrate a financial need and reside in one of the following Northeastern Pennsylvania counties: Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Pike, Wayne, or Wyoming.
The purpose of this scholarship shall be to provide recognition and financial assistance to outstanding undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State Scranton. Preference shall be given to employees or children of employees of United Gilsonite Laboratories or to students enrolled in business or a business-related curriculum.
This scholarship endowed by the John and Helen Villaume Foundation was established to recognize students enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State Scranton who demonstrate a financial need. First preference shall be given to students who reside in Wayne County, Pennsylvania.
Wafa Family Open Doors Scholarship
This scholarship Consideration for this scholarship is given to undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State Scranton who are participating in Complete Penn State or demonstrate financial need. Former Penn State Scranton chancellor, Dr. Marwan Wafa and his wife, Sahar Al-Masri, have created this scholarship.
Wayne-Pike Penn State Chapter Scholarship
The Wayne-Pike Penn State Chapter endowed this scholarship to recognize academically talented students who are incoming freshmen from high schools in Wayne and Pike Counties and who are enrolled at Penn State Scranton.
Dr. Stephen J. and Essie Weissberger Scholarship in Memory of Harry and Leah Weissberger and Sam and Irene Zilenchick
Dr. and Mrs. Stephen J. Weissberger have established this scholarship in memory of Dr. and Mrs. Weissberger's parents to recognize students who have excelled academically and who are residents of Taylor, PA and graduates of Riverside High School. Second preference for the scholarship will be given to graduates of Abington Heights High School.
Wells Fargo Scholarship
This scholarship, funded by Wachovia, recognizes students from Northeastern Pennsylvania who have excelled academically and who have a demonstrated financial need.
WFWB Trustee Scholarship
This scholarship was established by an anonymous donor to assist incoming or current students in the campus nursing program.
H. Leigh Woehling Memorial Scholarship
The Woehling Memorial Scholarship is awarded to an adult student who shows academic potential in his/her major and outstanding qualities of leadership and responsibility. It pays tribute to late Campus Advisory Board President H. Leigh Woehling.
John Woloschuk Memorial Scholarship
The Woloschuk Memorial Scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to full-time students enrolled or planning to enroll in a baccalaureate degree program in civil engineering at Penn State Scranton.
Penn State Scranton Alumni Society Open Doors Scholarship
Consideration for this scholarship is given to undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State Scranton who are participating in Complete Penn State or demonstrate financial need.
Penn State Scranton Alumni Society Scholarship
This scholarship was made possible through the generosity of the Campus Alumni Society, which is comprised of former campus students and graduates. It is awarded to full-time Penn State Scranton students enrolled in any Penn State degree program.
Penn State Scranton Lion Ambassadors Scholarship
This spirited group of student leaders has created a scholarship to recognize students who have excelled academically and who have exhibited involvement in campus activities. Preference is given to members of the organization.
Worthington Scranton Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students enrolled at Penn State Scranton who have achieved superior academic records or who manifest promise of outstanding academic success and who have a demonstrated financial need to meet their necessary college expenses. It was established in honor of Mr. Worthington Scranton, Governor William W. Scranton's father.
Joseph, Sr. and Catherine Zaydon Memorial Scholarship with their children Dr. Joseph, Jemille, and John
The purpose of this scholarship shall be to provide recognition and financial assistance to outstanding undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll at Penn State Scranton.
Edna and Thomas F. Zenty Trustee Scholarship
Thomas Zenty III established this scholarship in honor of his parents for students enrolled in the Nursing program at Penn State Scranton who have a demonstrated financial need.
Thomas F. Zenty, III and Family Scholarship
The Zenty Scholarship is given to part-time or full-time students of at least sophomore standing at Penn State Scranton whose course of study is in the health care field requiring licensure or certification to practice direct patient care and who reside in Lackawanna County.
These prestigious scholarships are awarded to students who have superior academic achievements. The scholarships may be renewed for the second year providing high academic standards are met. The Presidential Scholarships were funded at 17 Penn State locations by Barnes and Noble.
Bayard D. and Ethel M. Kunkle Scholarships
Kunkle Scholarships aid and recognize outstanding students enrolled at various Penn State locations. Scholarship recipients must exemplify good citizenship, give evidence of leadership, and exhibit professional promise.
Penn State Scranton Scholarships are awarded to incoming full-time freshmen who have demonstrated superior academic records and distinguished themselves in extracurricular involvement and service.
Penn State Scranton Trustee Scholarships
The Penn State Scranton Trustee Scholarship was made available through external matching funds to provide financial assistance to deserving students at all undergraduate Penn State campuses.
