We are honored that your student chose our campus for their college experience. As your loved ones embark on this exciting new chapter of their lives, we want you to know that you are an integral part of our extended Penn State family.
We understand the important role that family and friends play in the success and well-being of our students and your support, encouragement, and love are invaluable to them as they navigate this new journey.
Our campus is a place where students are encouraged to explore their passions, challenge themselves, and build lasting friendships. We are committed to providing them with a nurturing and inclusive environment that fosters both academic excellence and personal development and are willing to make that extra effort to help them succeed.
We have a number of student services and support programs available to them free of charge to assist them when needed -- from peer tutoring to counseling/psychological services to career services to health and wellness programs. And, for those students who fall on hard times, we have an Emergency Student Hardship Fund, as well as a food pantry on campus.
The diversity students find here at Penn State Scranton also expands their perspectives and world views, which is critical in today's global community. Here, they get to know and interact with a broad mix of students and faculty who come from more than 30 countries and different parts of the U.S.
Your student can also take advantage of extracurricular activities on campus that complement and enrich their learning experience. Students can choose from fun, as well as experiential, opportunities – from varsity, intramural and club sports; to student government, professional clubs and community service organizations; to diversity-based clubs and niche interest groups. With over 20 student clubs and organizations, there is sure to be something for everyone.
I recommend that you encourage your student to take full advantage of these opportunities to help them expand their social circle and involvement on campus, while learning the importance of networking and being part of something bigger.
Thank you for entrusting us with the education and development of your loved ones. Together, we will help them achieve their dreams and reach their fullest potential.
Warm regards,
Elizabeth J. Wright, Ph.D.
