The following policies were established to facilitate efficiency and provide equal opportunity for students to access services in The Writing Center.
Arrive on time. The tutor will provide students with a 10-minute grace period to show up for their appointment. After 10 minutes, their appointment will be forfeited and marked as a no-show.
Preparation. Students are expected to come to their sessions prepared. Students must be attending class, completing the required readings, and preparing questions for the tutor. Students are encouraged to bring the assignment sheet, rubric, and a draft of a paper when possible to get the most out of their session.
Location. Tutoring appointments will take place either in person at the Hawk Student Success Center in the SLC or remotely through Zoom. Students should choose the option that best suits their schedule.
Cancellations. If students are not able to attend their tutoring appointment, they should cancel their appointment or notify the Learning Center at 570-963-2678 as soon as possible.
Snow Day. In the event of campus closure due to inclement weather, students with writing center appointments have the option to request to meet with their tutor virtually. Students can request a virtual appointment by contacting their tutor by email as soon as possible but no later than 10:00 a.m. on the day of their scheduled appointment. Students who cannot meet virtually for their scheduled appointment will be given the option to reschedule. In the case of a scheduled virtual appointment, if either the tutor or the student is unable to keep the appointment due to complications arising from inclement weather, contact should be made as soon as possible via email to communicate this and reschedule.
Planning Ahead. Writing is process that requires time, effort, and commitment. It’s best to plan ahead and seek assistance early in the writing process.
